McMurry University Art Department seeks a graphic designer and professor to join the Art Department for the position of Assistant Professor of Art (Graphic Design) beginning August, 2026. This is a full-time, tenure-track position with competitive salary and benefits. The Art Department is seeking an individual who is motivated and collaborative with a strong desire to work and teach within an interdisciplinary program. Candidates should have a strong background in contemporary and traditional approaches to design including pedagogical and/or professional experience in two or more of the following areas: Typography, Graphic Design, Interaction Design (UX/UI, web), Motion Design/Animation. Candidates whose creative experience engages Photographic Media, and/or Time-Based Media are also encouraged to apply. The university is a SACSCOC accredited institution. The Department of Art offers four B.A. degrees in Studio Art, Multimedia & Graphic Design, Studio Art with Pre-Art Therapy & Art Education; and two B.F.A. degrees in Studio Art and Multimedia & Graphic Design. Majors are encouraged to explore multiple disciplines within the program and make interdisciplinary connections. The Multimedia/Graphic Design program currently has 30 majors. The ideal candidate must be passionate about teaching; dedicated to developing meaningful, collegial working relationships with students, faculty, and staff across campus; eager to contribute their interests and ideas for innovative courses and programs; dedicated to help build cross-disciplinary connections with other programs; committed to take an active role in recruiting and advising art majors and minors; actively pursue their own art and/or graphic design work; and dedicated to actively contribute to McMurry University’s mission. The ideal candidate should have experience working with all levels of undergraduate students and should be comfortable teaching majors and non-majors. Opportunities to teach study abroad courses are also available. Teach introductory to advanced studio courses in Graphic Design, Typography, Web Design, Animation, Interaction Design, and Digital Art to BA and BFA undergraduate students. Assist in maintaining the Mac Lab and managing equipment needs of students. Proficiency in current design industry software. Participate in curriculum planning, program assessment, and accreditation. Demonstrate active learning strategies in the classroom/studio, encouraging all students to succeed regardless of their prior experience in art, design, or within higher education. Collaborate with faculty within Art Department, as well as across the University. Attend and support Department sponsored events, exhibitions, etc. Actively engage in the Arts community All other duties as assigned An earned M.F.A. degree (or MDes, etc.) in Graphic Design or closely related degree is required. Experience teaching college or secondary-level courses in Multimedia & Graphic Design. Active record of design research, exhibitions, and/or professional Multimedia or Graphic Design experience. Participate in curriculum planning, program assessment, and accreditation. Portfolio items demonstrate active learning strategies in the classroom/studio. Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS).
