VASE History — Establishment of Divisions

The divisions were established to ensure that students had their artworks fairly evaluated according to their experience in visual arts (years of experience). Four levels of art student experience were developed:

• Division I (Beginning) — 0-1 Credits earned in High School Art
• Division II (Intermediate) — 1.5 – 2.0 Credits earned in High School Art
• Division III (Difficult) — 2.5 – 3.0 Credits earned in High School Art
• Division IV (Advanced) — 3.5 or more credits earned in High School Art or enrollment in AP, IB Visual Arts Program, or Dual/Concurrent credit course
