Youth Art Month
March is National Youth Art Month and the State of Texas has been a leader in Youth Art Month since 1961. To celebrate this special month, TAEA sponsors a flag design contest, an exhibit of 100 pieces of student art work PreK- 12th grade, and a student award celebration and reception at the state Capitol in Austin.
On Sunday, March 7th, 2010, TAEA honored these students along with the TAEA Youth Art Month flag design winner with an award ceremony and reception. Each student received a certificate, medal and a 2010 special edition YAM tote bag with art materials donated by art vendors. The YAM art exhibit hung in the South Extension of the Capitol building from March 5th - 14th, 2010. Congratulations to the students who were honored and thank you to all who were in attendance.

2010 YAM Scrapbooks
It is time to work on those YAM scrapbooks for your district. YAM scrapbooks are due on May 19th, 2010. Mail those to Alisa Meli, Schell Elementary, 5301 E. Renner Rd, Richardson, TX 75082. The scrapbook award winner will be honored at our 2010 conference in Austin.
2010 TAEA Youth Art Month Scrapbook / Report
Each summer TAEA submits a scrapbook / report to National for competition and to let the rest of the country know what is happening in art education in Texas. Information obtained for this scrapbook comes from you . . . Texas Art Educators. I need to know how you celebrated Youth Art Month. 2010 Youth Art Month Flag Design Winner
The 2010 YAM flag winner was Chenglei Wu from Coppell HS. He and his teacher, Tamera Westervelt will attend the National Youth Art Month flag event in Washington DC on March 25th, 2010. Congratulations to Chenglei and Tamera. To see a picture of the winning flag design, check out the YAM flag section on this website. The flag will be on display at our 2010 conference in Austin.
TASB / TASA Exhibit
Online registration for the TASB / TASA exhibit will run from August 2 - September 3, 2010. Start looking for pieces for that exhibit now and contact your YAM district representative or art coordinator for how your district submits artwork for the TASB / TASA exhibit. Entries must be postmarked by September 4th, 2010. Check out the 2010 YAM booklet for more details.
2010 Governor's Gallery
The Governor and his staff have chosen the ten works of art from the Youth Art Month Capitol exhibit that will hang in his business office at the Capitol for the next year. These art works will be professionally framed and the students will be honored with a special reception at the Governors office this summer.
