State VASE — Teacher Workshops and Portfolio Review

All State VASE attending teachers can select up to 2 sessions. All workshops are at San Marcos High School. Teachers must have themselves marked as "Y — Yes" attending VASE in order to register for workshops. Workshop registration begins 4/10/2024 at 2:00 PM.

Acrylic Photo Transfers (Mixed Media) by Peter Andrew
Hands-on demonstration using acrylic medium on toner photo prints to incorporate into mixed media art projects.
Creative Under-paintings in Watercolors (Painting) by Lisa L. Miller
Teachers will be introduced to Golden QoR watercolors and their use in creating a unique under-painting with saturated watercolor paper and a resist.
Fibonacci Art, a meaningful approach to T-TESS (2D) by Emily McLemore
Looking for a T-TESS lesson that is more than a dog and pony show? Fibonacci Inspired Art is your answer!! Create sample artwork while you build your lesson plan that fits all of the T-TESS parameters and challenges your students to create meaningful work.
Fundraising with Fused Glass (Sculpture) by Catherine Dawson
Teachers will learn about different fused glass projects that students can create and sell as a fundraiser for their programs. Teachers will be given information on how to use their ceramic kiln for glass fusing, and will be able to make and take a project with them that they can fuse in their kiln at school.
Lapse it and stop motion animation (Animation) by Monica Lawrence
Using a free app on their phones, students can make their own stop motion animation(SMA) videos! It's a great sculpture group project that uses simple and found materials.
Mixed Media Landscapes (Mixed Media) by Mary Catherine Watson
This workshop teaches a technique in layering pastels, willow vine charcoal and pearlescent liquid temperas for luminous landscapes.
Visual Journaling as a Creative Process (2D) by Laura Grundler and Amy Semifero
We will use visual journals as a means to express and record the world around us. Come learn some new visual journal techniques and see some amazing examples of how they can be utilized in your classroom. Participants are asked to bring a sketchbook/journal that has heavyweight paper to accept a variety of media, including wet media.
