Texas State University Tours

Discover Texas State University's School of Art and Design with a student-led tour of our facilities! Teachers have the option to choose between a tour of the Joann Cole Mitte Building (JCM), our primary location and home to the TXST Galleries, or Sabinal (SAB), home to the Photography program and Sabinal Gallery. To schedule your preferred tour, please use the link below to access our sign-up form. We will review your chosen preferences, assign your group to the appropriate time slot, and Brigid Becker will reach out to you to confirm.

Our main location, JCM, is situated at the corner of West Sessom Drive and North Comanche Street on the Texas State University campus. Sabinal, our Photography building, is located at:

Wimberley Glassworks

Wimberley Glassworks is known worldwide for its beautiful hand blown glass art and lighting pieces. A visit to the gallery is unique, visitors can observe the beautiful craftsmenship of glassblowing and then shop the gallery.

San Marcos City Park & River

San Marcos City Park offers river access for the public (Sewell Park provides Texas State student access). No lifeguards; swimming not recommended (medium-strong current, lots of wild rice undergrowth). Be sure to look in City Park for two long mosaic mural walls designed by San Marcos High School students.

Self-Guided Tours of Public Art in San Marcos

San Marcos is full of public art installations. Let this be your guide to San Marcos' many murals, sculptures, galleries, installations, and more.

The Art Map features at #70 the Guardians of the River mosaic mural installation made by San Marcos High School students, AND includes tiles painted by 2022 State VASE participants! Guardians of the River is accessed through Ramon Lucio Park (baseball/softball fields) at the corner of CM Allen Parkway and the southbound I-35 access road.

Paddle SMTX

Paddle SMTX offers paddleboard and kayak night tours, paddleboard yoga and paddleboard rentals on the San Marcos River. For a unique experience, take one of the SUP Glow Night Tours. Each board is equipped with waterproof LED lighting that lights up the river below, offering a very cool view of the aquatic flora and fauna.
