Middle School Jr High Division Elect
What a great meeting we had again this year at conference, and we had so much fun with our theme, "You Can't Scare Me...I Teach Middle School Art!" Many kudos go to exiting Chair, Lisa Miller, for planning a great gathering and procuring our fantastic and popular division t-shirts! We had a wonderful turnout again this year, and we appreciate the dedication of our MSJH division members. You are the heart and soul of this division, and I am constantly amazed at the creativity and perseverance of this group. I will have some huge shoes to fill as I take over the leadership of our division, but it is my goal to be of service to our membership to the very best of my ability.
This year's theme will be based on the use of technology in the art room to enhance and enrich the learning environment. We want to really focus on how technology has changed over the years as well as the ways we use new technologies to engage middle school and junior high learners. I know that if you are like me, I sometimes feel like the students teach me as much or more as I teach them when it comes to new applications, but isn't that one of the greatest things about the art room? We so often learn collaboratively with our students who are so adept at thinking outside the box and coming up with new ideas. How are YOU using technology in your classrooms, what problems are you dealing with, and how is your curriculum improving through the use of technology? These are just a few of the ideas we'll be exploring this year. Chair Elect Joelle Dulaney has already come up with some great ideas for next year's meeting, and I'm so grateful for her input!
Please take advantage of the various avenues we've put in place to share your ideas, questions, and concerns with the rest of the group. Our Facebook page continues to grow (TAEA Middle School/Junior High Division) and is a great place to ask questions or start a discussion. Lisa has agreed to stay on as our page administrator . . . many thanks! We've also launched a Weebly site. I am a self proclaimed Twitter nube, but I hope to improve my tweeting skills and move forward with a Twitter feed as well. Please don't hesitate to with questions, comments, suggestions, etc. I would love to hear from you!
Blessings to you all, and best of luck with all the amazing things I know you're doing in your classrooms!
